Simmons Field opened in 1920 with a capacity of 7,000. The park was originally used by the Simmons Bedding Company's baseball team. The original grandstand was destroyed in a fire and the grandstand seen today was built in 1930. It was rumored that the fire was started by a rival team. In 1947, the Simmons company sold the park and the city allowed the Kenosha Comets of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League to play at Simmons Field. The Comets played here from 1948-1951.There is an historic plaque on the side of the grandstand commerating the Comets. In 1984, the Kenosha Twins (Single A) played here. The Twins played here for nine years. Chuck Knoblauch played for the Kenosha Twins at Simmons Field. In 1992, the team moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Thanks to Peter DiGuadio for sending me the field shot!
